Sestiere Dorsoduro
Zattere
Laid-back waterfront on the south side of Dorsoduro.
What makes it special
Local favorite for strolling
Especially on sunny afternoons, locals promenade the nearly 2 km stretch, sharing laughs, exchanging news and gossip and enjoying gelato. You may feel more like an observer than a participant, but that's all part of the experience.
Former timber dock
Zattere is Italian for 'rafts'. It once served as a landing dock for rafts with timber, so vital for building Venetian ships and structures.
Church of Gesuati
Beyond the grand Greek temple front, discover a luminous nave adorned with intricate frescoes and sculptures, crowned by a breathtaking ceiling painted by Tiepolo.
Spectacular sunsets
As sunset approaches, find the perfect spot by the water to enjoy an aperitivo, relaxed by the gentle flow of boats along the Giudecca Canal.

Your experience here
- Enjoy the genuine local vibe you won’t find at the more crowded tourist promenades.
- Sip an aperitivo while watching the sunset, and the world go by.
- Stroll by the water at the most soothing time of day: sunset.
- When you’re done here, wander the winding alleys back into Dorsoduro to discover Venice’s nightlife.
Walk east
Make sure to walk all the way to the easternmost tip of the promenade at Punta della Dogana.
The views over the San Marco Basin are breathtaking at any time of day — chances are, you’ll find yourself coming back for more.
