Gallerie dell'Accademia

Art museum documenting the evolution of Venetian art from the 13th to the 18th centuries.

What makes it special

L'uomo vitruviano

Da Vinci's 'Vitruvian Man' has been one of the museum's prized holdings since 1822. Note that it is rarely on display, as the work is fragile and sensitive to light.

Santa Maria della Carità

The galleries are housed within a complex of three former 12th-century religious establishments - including Venice’s very first Scuola Grande - adding an extra layer of charm and historical depth to your visit.

The collection

Within the 37 halls, you will marvel at more than 800 paintings by renowned artists such as Bellini, Carpaccio, Giorgione, Veronese, Tintoretto, Titian, Tiepolo and many others.

Connect the dots

The 7 Scuole Grandi

One of the three buildings housing the Gallery today used to be the first Scuola Grande of Venice.

Titian vs. Tintoretto

Tintoretto's dynamic portrayal of the 'Presentation of the Virgin' in Madonna dell'Orto, created to outdo Titian's version in the Gallery, underscores the competition and rivalry between the two artists.
